Details

NOTE: While many reproduction pieces exist, we believe these to be authentic, but cannot guarantee these coupes’ authenticity and have priced them accordingly. Original Gillinder examples are scarce and sought after by collectors. They are typically identified by their weight (heavier than reproductions), the amount of detail in the lion’s carving (authentic versions are more detailed), and the clarity of the glass (reproductions often have a cloudy appearance).

This 1870s Gillinder & Sons Frosted Lion Early American Pattern Glass (EAPG) dessert coupe is a fine example of collectible 19th-century American glassware. Measuring 4" across and 2.5" tall, the piece features a frosted lion framed by palm trees, contrasted against the clarity of the upper bowl. The design captures both the strength of the motif and the elegance of Art Nouveau styling, making it a favorite among serious collectors.

FI’ve coupes are available and sold individually, which is exceptionally rare given the age of these pieces. Finding a single authentic Frosted Lion coupe is difficult enough, but encountering a matching group from the same estate is almost unheard of. Collectors have the opportunity to purchase one as a highlight piece or secure multiple to assemble a highly desirable set.

Each coupe is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or damage, and the glass remains clear and bright. Admired for its detail and historical significance, the Frosted Lion pattern stands as one of Gillinder’s most iconic designs. Whether displayed as a centerpiece in an EAPG collection or enjoyed as a standalone treasure, these coupes offer both beauty and rarity.
